The aims of this course is to provide students with: the opportunity of acquiring a sound knowledge and understanding of the central periods of Roman history, which is both satisfying in itself and a basis for those wishing to continue their study of the subject at a higher level; an introduction to the study of the nature of historical evidence and the problems of historical interpretation in these periods and the opportunity to study selected periods or themes in detail, with some study based on original sources.
